Barstool Basketball Mailbag: My Most Hated College Player, How To Talk Trash To Rivals, National Title Contenders & More

Basketball is a year round sport, so due to that we’re going to do a year round mailbag. We’re still going to run this every Friday like we do during the season, but we’ll be talking about college hoops, transfers, NBA Draft, NBA and recruiting questions. That’s right you get an NBA and college hoops mailbag all rolled into one every Friday. Reminder you can always submit questions on Twitter @barstoolreags

It’s not the dumbest rule, but it’s the worst officiated one. I mean I still go with the touchback for fumbling out of the end zone, 2 yellow cards in separate matches getting you suspended, fair play points in FIFA as some that are dumber. But, this is the worst one to focus on. Hook and hold isn’t really a thing, especially when guys can just stick an arm in there, put another arm up and get an intentional foul. Again, it all happened over 1 freak injury and now it’s ruining the game with intentional fouls and reviews. Officials have no idea what’s going on and players have no idea how to change boxouts. It’s just horrendous.

Not going to break any news here but the first call has to be Eric Musselman. See if you can bring him to Wake. If not then I’d call Wes Miller at UNC Greensboro. He has a bunch of ties to the area playing for UNC and while he’s likely hoping he can take over at UNC when Roy is done, he needs to get some experience at a power school before then. Plus, a UNC guy coaching Wake would just be hilarious from an outsiders view. He makes sense though. I’d go with him if you can. Finally, I’d see about Randolph Childress. He’s a good recruiter. He’s a legend. He’s the current assistant coach. Maybe he’s ready for a head coaching job.

I tend to go with the better overall season but you have to sprinkle in some head to head matchup. I mean you get bragging rights to a degree if you win and that’s what people will default to. But would you rather go say 28-10 with a Final Four or 13-18 with that win? I’ll take the successful season, thank you very much. I love trash talk between college hoops fans. it’s what makes game so fun. But, use some knowledge here. I see it all the time between X/UC fans here in Cincinnati. They need new material. Xavier has been the better program over the last 10 or so years. But, they don’t have a Final Four. UC fans scream about that while X screams about when the banners came and who has been better. Spice it up with new material

No. They still have quality wins over Marquette, Butler and Louisville. They are going to have chances for more quality wins. They need to get Romeo Langford more involved. Right now they are using him off ball and running him as a shooter. He’s better with the ball in his hands more. I’d use him to initiate the offense more. Get him in a rhythm attacking in the midrange and at the rim where he’s really good. A home win tonight vs Michigan cures that losing streak.

Fucking Luke Maye. Don’t get me wrong he turned into a good player, but he’ll alway be fucking Luke Maye to me. It’s the way it all happened to. The fact that Monk hit that pretty ridiculous shot to tie it up. The scramble down the court. The fact that he didn’t score a point in the Final Four or title game. The fact that he was wide open. Fuck Luke Maye.

I think they are a Final Four contender with flaws. They still need to defend the 3-point line better. They still need to figure out exactly how much to play Little, who has been damn good over the last 2 weeks. I think they have the talent to win 6 in a row, but they have more flaws than probably, say, 8 teams ahead of them? I still think it’s going to be the play of Kenny Williams. He’s such a weapon when he’s shooting the ball well that opens up lanes for Coby White to drive/Maye to post. He’s the key.

Yes, they can make a run. They are loaded with talent and deep. One thing to remember with them during the regular season is they are 5th year seniors who could be playing pro. They are going to get bored. They should beat every team they play, but they will let bad teams hang around knowing it doesn’t really matter in the long run. More importantly they are defending at a high level this year. That’s why I think they can make a run.
